Today I’m back to follow up on that blog by sharing the travel pixies’ favorite resorts for various ages and stages of Disney vacationers. So let’s get started with some resort fun! Today, let’s chat about Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Starting on Aug. 1, 2016, you can experience Disney Early Morning Magic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
On these special mornings, the rides you can experience will include Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, Toy Story Mania!, Pixar Place character greetings (with Woody and Buzz), and Mickey and Minnie on Commissary Lane and Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight.
Make sure to bring your appetite because you can also partake in a hearty all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast at ABC Commissary from 8-10 a.m. Disney Early Morning Magic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios takes place Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:45-10 a.m.
Disney Early Morning Magic will be offered on different days than Extra Magic Hours. The number of tickets available for each morning is limited.
In other Disney Hollywood Studio news…
Sunset Showcase will again be hosting Club Villain, a special ticketed event that features some of Disney’s most popular villains. Your host, Dr. Facilier, along with some evil-diva co-hosts, invite you to an evening full of spooky dining and dancing!
This event runs on Friday and Saturday night from September 2 – October 29, with a final event on Monday, October 31. There are two nightly events to choose from: a 5:15 pm and an 8:30 pm. Also, be aware that since this event will offer banquet style seating, you may be seated with other parties. Disney dining plan entitlements may not be redeemed for this event. Tickets are$129 per person, tax and gratuity included, and can be purchased 90 days in advance. Separate admission to Hollywood Studios is required and not included in the price of this package.
Both of these extra events sound fun! Contact one of our Travel Pixies for more information . We’re always excited help with all of your Disney planning!
It‘s almost time for one of EPCOT’s most exciting times of the year! The 2016 International Food and Wine Festival is set to start on September 14 and run through November 14. This event brings
incredible food and delicious wine to the park that excites the senses.
If you’ve never been to EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival, you are in for a real treat! You can, literally, eat your way around the world. Spread throughout the World Showcase, vendors are set up in each country. You can purchase a small portion to sample. Along with the food, you can also purchase a paring wine. Some of the booths this year will feature American, Bakery, British,
Chinese, Norwegian, Asian, African, Japanese, Polynesian, Greek, Italian, Moroccan, French, Seafood, German, Latin, Sushi and Irish Cuisine. How will you choose??
You prefer a good drink, you say? Great! There are several opportunities to try your hand (or mouth) at new mixology techniques. You can attend a beverage seminar that will give you tips from some of the top drink specialists. There is a class that will teach you how to pair cuisine with special brews and spirits. If you want to learn a new talent, you can go to the Mixology seminar and become the life of the party!
This year, Disney has an exciting line up of Celebrity Chefs. Great Culinary notables Geoffrey Zakarian, Maneet Chauhan, Duff Golman and Masaharu Mormoto, to name a few, will be on hand for culinary
demonstrations. Other icons like Robert Irvine, Cat Cora and Elizabeth Falkner will return to inspire foodies at premium events like the Party for the Senses.
For a second consecutive year, ABC’s Emmy-Award-winning lifestyle series, “The Chew” will arrive to produce a full week of programs on the show’s exclusive Epcot festival stage.
The big news for this year are the Disney World Resorts joining the festival experience. Some of the new adventures include:
- “Brunch with a Twist at Disney’s
- Grand Floridian Resort & Spa” — a sumptuous 5-star, 5-course meal prepared by the resort’s award-winning chefs
- “The Secrets of Flavor at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort” — a three-course lunch that gives you a ‘sensory-food connection’ at Yachtsman Steakhouse
- “Culinary Adventures with a Master Chef” at Disney’s Contemporary Resort — a hands-on chef’s table experience in a professional working kitchen
- “Behind the Scenes at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto” at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — an entertaining tour of the whimsical Trader Sam’s, followed by lunch and a special mixology session
One of my favorite parts of the festival is that you can use your Disney Dining Plans at most of the meals and some food booths will allow you to use snack and counter service portions of the plan.
As though all of this is not enough, you will be able to dance off some of those newly added calories at the “Dance to the Beat” concert series. The series runs several weeks and consists of bands from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. The concerts are held in the American Garden’s Theater and are free with your EPCOT admission. You can see your favorite acts 5:30pm, 6:45pm and 8:00pm.

Working for an earmarked agency and specializing in Disney travel, it’s pretty much a given that between myself and our other travel pixies, we have tried the vast majority of dining locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. And it’s such a great thing, too, because one of the most frequent things I am asked by the folks I am working with is what restaurants I would recommend. Dining can be kind of tricky because everyone has their favorite foods and how good or bad a restaurant is can vary dramatically depending upon who you ask. And, of course, what may be a favorite for families with small children may not be an ideal choice for an older adult couple traveling either with no children or adult children. But luckily for us, Disney offers a huge array of dining choices and there are some locations that just naturally are favorites across the board and folks almost always leave those places with a smile on their faces and a full belly! So I’ve put together some quick recommendations from all of our OLP Travel Pixies to help make those dining decisions even easier. So let’s get started!
For families with small children, the resounding number one recommendation is Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. And it’s no surprise why! With a fabulous buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus the opportunity to meet Mickey himself along with a few friends, this truly is the ideal location for kid friendly fun. Other great options include Tusker House at the Animal Kingdom (Jungle Juice is the BEST!) with Donald and Friends; ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort which has an awesome breakfast including Lilo and Stitch or a delicious dinner which, while it doesn’t include characters, it does have singing and coconut races! Lastly, The Garden Grill in EPCOT‘s The Land pavilion is a wonderful option including Chip ‘n Dale and friends for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
For families with older children, dining gets a little bit more ‘grown up’. But it’s WDW, so really, how grown up can you be, right? The recommendations for these family types include Teppan Edo in Japan in EPCOT’s World Showcase. This entertaining dining experience is sure to be a favorite for the whole family. Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom offers options that appeal to a slightly older pallet while still giving you the magical feeling of dining in Beast’s castle. At the Coral Reef in The Living Seas at EPCOT’s Future World, you can enjoy amazing dinners while feeling like you’re dining inside a fish tank. The Boathouse at Disney Springs has brought to life a whole new dining experience! Enjoy the car style water taxis and a dinner you won’t soon forget. And finally, don’t forget about Sci-Fi Dine In Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Enjoy classic drive in favorites while a the ‘movies’ in your very own car booth. This is great fun for everyone in the family!
Moving on to the honeymooners. Truly, is there anywhere better to
honeymoon than WDW?? I think not! For dining, California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is highly recommended. This restaurant is at the top of the resort and offers breathtaking views of the Magic Kingdom as well as the Seven Seas Lagoon. If you time it just right, you can even see the fireworks! Jiko at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is another great option. With beautiful African style surroundings and one of a kind dining offerings, this is definitely the place for a nice, romantic dinner. Victoria and Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is one of the best kept secrets at WDW. This very upscale restaurant is a AAA Five Diamond Reward recipient since 2000. The timeless elegance of this location will be the highlight of your honeymoon. But let’s not forget Citricos while you’re visiting the Grand Floridian. This is another amazing location to enjoy a delicious Mediterranean style meal in the casual elegance of the dining room. Romance? Yes please!
And last, but not least, there are the couples with either no children or traveling with adult children. For these folks, Narcoossee’s at the Grand Floridian tops the list. With it’s casual waterfront setting and panoramic views of the lagoon, this is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal and some great conversation. Trattoria Al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk is another great casual option. With delicious Italian offerings as well as a great variety for those with dietary needs, this is the perfect location to sit back, relax, and enjoy the meal! Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe Dining Room in Disney Springs has been delighting folks for years! This amazing place offers a unique fusion of Asian and Californian Cuisine. And don’t forget about Hollywood Brown Derby in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This classic restaurant will make you feel like you’re back in the golden age of Tinseltown. This lower key restaurant is a great respite from the hustle and bustle just outside it’s doors.
There you have it! Some tried and true recommendations from your
favorite OLP Travel Pixies! Are you hungry yet? Then let’s get busy planning! Bon Appetite!
