When Tinkerbell's wand filled the screen with pixie dust, Tammy always wished upon the star for a trip to the Magic Kingdom. She made that first magical trip in 1978 for graduation. Since then, Tammy has traveled to the parks as a honeymooner, with toddlers, tweens, teens, young adults, friends, solo and most recently, as an empty nester with her husband. Ah, the circle of life! The natural progression of that lifelong love for all things Disney led her to become a Disney travel agent. Tammy is a proud graduate of the College of Disney Knowledge. She is also an industry trained travel agent with further training in both Universal Studios and SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment.

Disney Homeschool Days ~ A Disney Field Trip

A little known educational opportunity offered by the Disney Resorts is Disney Homeschool Days. I’d heard rumors of such an event. But, not having school age children in the house anymore, I never really looked into this. However, upon conducting research for my Disney Field Trip series, I ran across the mention of Disney Homeschool Days a few times. Which, of course, prompted me to investigate, as I do know a few families that homeschool their children. Continue reading Disney Homeschool Days ~ A Disney Field Trip

Education Disney~Style – A Disney Field Trip

We have explored Disney vacation venues seeking the answer to my question, “Can a Disney vacation be an educational opportunity?” I think we can agree that there are most definitely educational opportunities to be found almost everywhere you go. And, while we are busy having fun and making memories with our families, we ARE learning all the time, without even knowing it’s happening. In my series, A Disney Field Trip, we’ve explored Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, and Aulani. Each vacation venue offers many of the same educational opportunities, and yet each offers so much more that is unique to that specific location. Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa – A Disney Field Trip

Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, is a family paradise with a touch of magic – where everyone can enjoy amazing adventures, both together and on their own. Adults, teens and kids each have their own special places here. And there’s plenty of family fun, too.

Walt Disney Imagineers worked hand in hand with locals to create Aulani, a place that celebrates Hawaiian culture, history and traditions. From contemporary Hawaiian art featured throughout the Resort, to myriad recreational activities, entertainment, excursions and more, Aulani immerses guests in the legends of the islands so you can experience the true enchantment of Hawaii. And, experience is the best of teachers! Continue reading Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa – A Disney Field Trip

Adventures By Disney – A Disney Field Trip

In the summer of 2005, Disney quietly solicited participants for some experimental vacation packages to Hawaii and Yellowstone. They called the program “Adventures by Disney.” A very limited number of participants had the opportunity to test out the concept that first year. Based on that success, in 2006, the Adventures by Disney program became available to the public and expanded to many more destinations, including Costa Rica, France, England and Italy. Today, in 2012, there are 29 destinations available, including Greece, Egypt, South Africa and the Galapagos Islands. And, in 2013, there will be 33 destinations, including new itineraries through Scotland and Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia). Continue reading Adventures By Disney – A Disney Field Trip

Disney Cruise Line – A Disney Field Trip

On July 30, 1998, the Disney Cruise Line launched the Disney Magic. It was to be the first ship in the best cruise line in the world. Today, Disney Cruise Line boasts 4 of the most beautiful ships to sail the seas with dozens of itineraries and their own private island, Castaway Cay. And, in the spirit of the Disney theme parks, Disney Cruise Line is much more than just another cruise. Disney designed these ship to be innovative, offering unique facilities and programs, each with Disney’s hallmark, first-class service. While a vacation to a Disney theme park is wonderful, a Disney cruise will give you pause to slow down and absorb everything around you. You will learn things you never knew you wanted to know!

Walt Disney World Resort – A Disney Field Trip

When the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, Walt Disney World became the culmination of its namesake’s dream – a place where families could play together, learn together and embrace the future. Back then, the “World” was only a small fraction of what we enjoy today. Now, the Magic Kingdom Park, the Contemporary and Polynesian resort hotels have been joined by Epcot, Hollywood Studios, the Animal Kingdom park and enough resorts to suit every taste and budget. Walt Disney World Resort is a veritable World unto itself covering some 43-square miles. And, around every corner, there is a learning opportunity!

Disneyland – A Disney Field Trip

Disneyland is unquestionably a place where parents and children can form a bond and a common interest that will last a lifetime. The beauty of Disneyland would be lost if we had any agenda other than making wonderful memories with our families and just having plain old fun. I would never plan a trip to Disneyland for pure educational purposes. I mean, Disneyland wasn’t designed with education in mind. Nonetheless, over the years there have been efforts to educate as well as entertain. Walt Disney himself said, “I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.” It is this Disney magic that sneaks in a lesson when we are busy having fun!

Educational Opportunities – A Disney Field Trip!

I am not an educator. I am a wife, mom, child care provider, religious education instructor, Girl Scout leader, classroom volunteer, field trip chaperone, snack packing, sunscreen toting woman! I’ve done a lot with my family and various sized groups of children, teens and adults. I’m that parent who spouts out boring interesting bits of information about this, that and the other thing, no matter where we go or what we do. I can’t help it. I love KNOWING things! And, I love finding things out even better! Which has led me to investigate this question: Can a Disney family vacation be an educational opportunity?

Adventures by Disney ~ Three All New Itineraries for 2013

The very name, Adventures by Disney, should elicit a taste of what is to come. Adventures? Disney? It is the perfect pairing, and we’re not talking theme parks here!

In 2006, Disney launched Adventures by Disney to provide guided, structured tours to some of the most popular destinations in the world. Destinations range from places right here at home (the Grand Canyon, Alaska, California, the Mid-Atlantic, and Wyoming among others) to Europe (London, Paris, Rome) as well as locations in Asia, Africa and Australia. With the exception of the California Backstage Magic tour, NONE of these adventures will take you into a Disney theme park.
