Walt Disney World Holiday Events for 2010

July 27th, 2010

Disney has released the Holiday Schedule of events for Walt Disney World. The celebrating will start early in Walt Disney World. You can enjoy the festivities startling on November 8, 2010 this year. Sadly, the beautiful Lights of Wonder, at Epcot, will not be returning. As rumored when they were not there last year, they are not being replaced at this time. It was a highlight for many. You can see those beautiful lights in this video of the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Epcot.

Disney has some good deals for upcoming travel dates. If you are thinking of planning a Walt Disney World vacation, you can contact an OLP Travel agent today for help planning your Walt Disney World vacation, or contact me personally, and I will be happy to help you plan your trip.

Here is what awaits you for Holiday Fun at Walt Disney World!

Magic Kingdom

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party – On 19 magical nights between Nov. 8 and
Dec. 19, holiday revelers can sip cocoa, catch a “snowflake” on a fingertip and catch the spirit of the season through enchanting entertainment that includes live shows, fireworks, carolers and special character meet and greets.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which kicks off at 7 p.m. on select evenings (after regular Magic Kingdom closing), is pure, time-honored Disney magic:

Dancing gingerbread, marching soldiers and Santa’s sleigh parade down Main Street, U.S.A. to seasonal melodies during the twice-nightly “Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade” … Cinderella Castle is draped radiantly with 200,000 glistening white lights … and “Holiday Wishes, Celebrate the Spirit of the Season” fireworks lights the night sky during a pyrotechnics show orchestrated to holiday melodies.

The night wouldn’t be complete without the forecasted flurry of snowflakes along Main Street, U.S.A. and a warming cup of cocoa in hand. Party-goers also enjoy complimentary cookies and apple slices and enjoy unlimited admission to favorite attractions.

This after-hours family-friendly outing takes place Nov. 8, 11, 12, 16, 18, 19, 28, 30 and Dec. 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17 and 19. The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. and continues until midnight. Day-of-party ticket pricing is $59.95 ($53.95 for ages 3-9). Advance tickets are available with $6 savings for most dates. Guests can visit Disneyworld.com/christmasparty or call 407/W-DISNEY.

Castle Dream Lights – When daylight has passed during the holiday season, Magic Kingdom guests can behold a breathtaking transformation during the Castle Dream Lights ceremony. Each evening Nov. 8, 2010, through Jan. 3, 2011, Cinderella and favorite characters decked out in holiday garb take to the stage and magically transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace aglow with 200,000 white lights – a perfect centerpiece to a park all decked out with wreaths, bows, garland and towering Christmas trees.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Spectacle of Dancing Lights – Millions of brilliant bulbs blanket the backlot with dancing lights and animated displays synchronized to high-energy holiday tunes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Nov. 8, 2010, through Jan. 3, 2011.

Colorful wreaths, twirling carousels, flying angels and Santa and his reindeer bedazzle park-goers amid swirling snow flurries during The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, a megawatt, multi-colored spectacle that Show Director John Phelan calls “the ultimate Americana Holiday lights display.”

“Imagine it,” Phelan said. “One private citizen (Jennings Osborne), overwhelmed by the spirit of the season, created his own ‘Holiday Wonderland,’ complete with a giant rotating globe with ‘Peace on Earth’ above it and a massive canopy of red lights that people could walk under. He said he wanted the people to feel like they were inside the lights, looking out. Only in America!”

In fact, originally it was only in Little Rock, at the home of Arkansas businessman Jennings Osborne. The rich tradition began some 20 years ago when he strung 1,000 lights as a Christmas gift to his daughter. After the exhibit grew larger and brighter – into millions of lights – it was transported to Walt Disney World Resort in 1995, where the light display now delights guests from all over the world each year.

Epcot

Holidays Around the World – Throughout World Showcase, storytellers share customs and lore from their heritage from Nov. 26-Dec. 30. Strolling around the promenade during the Holidays Around the World celebration may put you face-to-face with the good-hearted witch La Befana, known in Italy for filling children’s shoes with treats, or the jolly gift-bearer Father Christmas in the United Kingdom. There are meet and greets with Santa and Mrs. Claus in The American Adventure, plus other legendary icons who share messages of goodwill. The celebrations of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah are showcased as well.

The evening is capped by the visual splendor of “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” the mesmerizing Epcot spectacular featuring fireworks, laser and water – all spruced up for the season with a spirited holiday finale.

Candlelight Processional – The poignant story of Christmas unfolds during this renowned event featuring celebrity narrators, a mass choir and 50-piece live orchestra at America Gardens Theatre. On Nov. 26, Isabella Rossellini is scheduled to lead off the star-studded celebrity lineup that later in the season is scheduled to include Whoopi Goldberg and Jodi Benson among others (lineup of narrators is subject to change without notice). To ensure a seat for this joyous favorite, Candlelight Dinner packages are available with dinner at select Epcot restaurants, a special spot for fireworks viewing and guaranteed seating for the heartfelt Candlelight Processional. For bookings call 407/WDW-DINE.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade – The wild side of Animal Kingdom blends with a playful spirit of the holidays during “Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade.” Mickey and pals present seasonal melodies with a world beat twist during a whimsical cavalcade throughout the park. The high-energy afternoon parade runs daily from Nov. 26, 2010, through Jan. 3, 2011.

Santa Goofy’s Holiday Village is adorned with festive décor and perfectly trimmed Christmas trees and crooning carolers. And Santa Goofy and spirited friends greet guests for photo opportunities.

Downtown Disney

Festival of the Seasons – Santa Claus is coming to town – to Downtown Disney, that is – and he’ll be meeting kids, listening to wishes and posing for pictures daily from Nov. 19 through Dec. 24 at Santa’s Chalet.

Santa is at the center of Festival of the Seasons, during which school choirs and bands often perform at the dock stage to help ring in the season … and shoppers can enjoy holiday gift buying every day.

With dozens of shops from boutiques to gigantic toy stores, there is something for every style and budget. Tren-D has hip fashions and accessories, D Street offers all the latest Vinylmations, the World of Disney store showcases character, princess and pirate merchandise, and lots more. And you could fill Santa’s sleigh with all the games and goodies at Once Upon a Toy. There are also Ghirardelli chocolates, Basin (soaps and bath products), LEGO Imagination Center and much more.

Walt Disney World’s Newest Dining Option at Epcot – Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria

July 9th, 2010

Disney is listening to the public, and answering the need for more restaurants at Walt Disney World. Not only is this beneficial to the guests, it will help with the problem of find seating at the sit down restaurants. It is a win/win deal to construct more dining options in the Walt Disney World theme parks.

The even better news is that there will be new options available by the time free dining starts.

The newest restaurant will be opening in August! This new location is a pizzeria and will be located in the Italy Pavillion, at Epcot in Walt Disney World. It will be named Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria.

This will be a 300 seat restaurant, with indoor and outdoor seating. Owned by the Patina Restaurant Group’s CEO Nick Valenti, this restaurant promises a real Southern Italian Pizza. Valenti spent time ein Napals, Italy, studying the pizza at two famous pizzerias, DaMichele and Trianon. The Patina Group runs Tutto Italia, which is in Italy, too, at Epcot.

The pizzas will be baked in brick wood burning ovens. Here is a look at the sample mneu that was posted on the Disney Park Blogs.

Appetizers: Sicilian eggplant with olives and raisins; salad of lettuce, fagiolini (string beans), fennel and tomatoes; arancini (fried saffron risotto balls) with meat ragù, mozzarella and pomodoro sauce; corn-crusted fried calamari; and minestrone with basil pesto. Or share a plate of arancini, mozzarella, calamari, portobella mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini and carciofi (artichokes).

Main course salads: Manzo (filet of beef) with greens, red onion, gorgonzola, apple and cucumber with a red wine-mustard vinaigrette; chopped salad with lemon chicken, greens, cantaloupe, cucumber, red pepper, green beans, onions, almonds and pasta crisps with honey-citrus vinaigrette; calamari with arugula, carrots and fennel with orange vinaigrette.

Pastas: candele (long, tube-shaped pasta) with sausage ragù; linguine with seafood; malfadine (ribbon pasta) with guanciale (unsmoked Italian bacon) and pomodoro sauce; lasagna verde.

Piatti alla Parmigiana: (dishes topped with Parmesan and mozzarella gratinée): veal, chicken and eggplant.

Wood-fired pizzas: made with caputo flour imported from Southern Italy, San Marzano tomatoes, handmade mozzarella and water from a local spring just like in Italy’s Campania region – 10-inch, 20-inch or 1/2 meter to share: a dozen choices, from a simple pizza Margherita with tomato, mozzarella and basil to carciofi with artichoke, potato, pecorino cheese, prosciutto and cantaloupe.

Sweets: tiramisù, zeppole di ricotta (ricotta cheese-fried dough, whipped cream and chocolate sauce); apple cake with almond sorbetti; gelatie; and vanilla gelato with almond cookies and amarena cherries.

I love the menu, and can’t wait to try this restaurant. I am truly hoping that this restaurant will have a walk up window, for slices of pizza. Maybe there will be a window on the right hand side of the restaurant, where the outdoor seating is. It has not been announced that they won’t have one, so I can be hopeful. There is a need, along with more sit down restaurants, for more counter service options at Walt Disney World.

Disney is ever changing, and you will find new dining experiences when you travel to Walt Disney World next. You can contact an OLP Travel agent today for help planning your Walt Disney World vacation, or contact me personally, and I will be happy to help you plan your trip.

Fantasyland Construction News Walt Disney World

June 22nd, 2010

The reconstruction of Fantasyland at Walt Disney World continues, and the Orlando Sentinel has reported that Disney has obtained a $15 Million permit for the building of the new Journey of the Little Mermaid attraction. This is a new dark ride that is planned for Fantasyland, and will be right in the center of the sweeping expanse of the new and much improved Fantasyland.

Permits have been pulled for the areas that needed demolition in Fantasyland. The area where Ariel’s Grotto was will be the site of the Beauty and the Beast themed area. Scuttles Landing walk up restaurant will be removed, as will a maintenance shed located near the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction.

That isn’t it for building permits! Disney really is sprucing up Walt Disney World. Permits for work on the façade of Expo Hall in Magic Kingdom, for work on the Mexican Cantina, at Epcot, and for work on the Days of Christmas Shop, in Downtown Disney, have been approved. The total dollar amount for all the permits issued to Disney for the month of March is $23.2 Million! April saw a 24% increase, and may a 4% increase over April.

Expected opening for the first portion of the fantasyland expansion is set or early 2012, and I think we can expect Disney to plus a lot of things along the way. Meanwhile, the magic continues at Walt Disney World. Just look at what is happening this coming week, and during the summer of 2010!

Anytime is a good time to visit Walt Disney World. You can contact an OLP Travel agent today for help planning your Walt Disney World vacation, or contact me personally, and I will be happy to help you plan your trip.

Disney Cruise Line Sets Final Building Block in Place on the Disney Dream!

June 1st, 2010

The final building block for the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Dream, was placed today, June 1, 2010, at the Meyer Werft shipyard. Captain Mickey Mouse joined Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz to add a ceremonial touch of paint to the final block – which happens to be a 260-ton section of the Disney Dream bow.

This signals the completion of a major milestone in the ship’s overall construction. All 80 building blocks, which essentially frame the outside of this beautiful Disney Dream, are in place. Now, the focus will shift into high gear with the building of the interior of the ship.

The Disney Dream will follow the tradition started with the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder, as far as the style of the ship goes. We can expect a blend of elegant grace that one might have experienced in the early 20th century, when Walt Disney cruised. Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Dream, will offer new innovative features, and, of course, the unmistakable Disney Difference. This ship will be spectacular!

A fun feature will be the Enchanted Art experience on the ship. This is an interactive detective game. A special card will allow guests to peer behind a virtual canvas to discover clues.

Another fun experience will be on Deck 13 of the Disney Dream. That is where you will find Goofy’s Golf, on Goofy’s Sports Deck! This miniature golf course is sure to please children of all ages. There will be several virtual sports experiences such as soccer, basketball and tennis. A walking track will circle Goofy’s Sports Deck.

Probably the most innovative touch of all on the Disney Dream is the much awaited AquaDuck, the first-ever shipboard water coaster. Guests aboard the new Disney Dream can get swept away on the exhilarating high-speed flume ride which features twists, turns, drops, acceleration and river rapids – all while traversing the upper decks of the ship

On January 26, 2011, the Disney Dream will set sail from Port Canaveral, Fla. on her maiden voyage and take family cruising to all-new heights. You can book your Disney Dream cruise now, and sail to the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, on a three or four night cruise. Contact an OLP Travel agent today for help with the planning, or contact me personally, and I will be happy to help you plan your trip.

Fantasyland News! Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Winnie the Pooh’s Tree, and Tinkerbell, Too!

May 26th, 2010

The work on Fantasyland, in the Magic Kingdom, at Walt Disney World continues. One big change that is now official, as reported on Disney’s blog, is the renaming of Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel. The new name of the carrousel will be Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, and this will be official as of June 1, 2010.

Here is the official story that inspired the carrousel.

Following their fairy-tale romance and happily-ever-after wedding, Cinderella and Prince Charming took up residence in Cinderella’s Castle. With peace throughout the kingdom, Prince Charming had time to practice for jousting tournaments. In the countryside near the castle, he built a training device of carved horses, on which he could practice the art of ring-spearing, a tournament event in which a knight rides his horse full speed, lance in hand, toward a small ring hanging from a tree limb, with the object of spearing the ring. This event was known by various names throughout the lands, but generally came to be called “carrousel.”

The carrousel device drew the attention of the villagers, who wanted to take a turn on this amazing spinning contraption. So Prince Charming had a second carrousel constructed closer to the Castle, where everyone could take a spin on this wondrous invention. Instead of a working knight’s training device, however, this new carrousel is more befitting its regal location in the Castle Courtyard – its rustic training horses replaced with ornately decorated prancing steeds adorned with golden helmets and shields, flower garlands, feathers and other festoons. Prince Charming invites one and all to test their horsemanship skills and to enjoy their own happy ending.

I am enjoying watching the new Fantasyland as it is imagined and created, step by step. Disney is recreating old attractions, along with creating new attractions.

One example of recreating old attractions is the fact that they are reusing the Winnie the Pooh Tree. It was moved and set in place by the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. This will be a part of what will be known as the Fantasyland Forest.

There has been a lot of news about the new parts of Fantasyland, one being Pixie Hollow. Disney will be using an old method patented as System and/or method for combining images. In true Walt Disney form, they are plusing this affect, which is known as Pepper’s Ghost, by computerizing it. So, when you visit Pixie Hollow, there is s good chance Tinkerbell will magically appear right in front of you, and you will be able to interact with her. It will feel like real pixie sparkling about and appearing and disappearing.

I continue to get excited about the renovation of Fantasyland! Even while it is being done, Disney is adding fun to the vacation experience. There is plenty of work being done right now, but the theme park experience is not affected. Disney wants us to visit, and they have plenty of discounts available to tempt us. Plan your visit to Walt Disney World today! You can contact an OLP Travel agent today for help with the planning, or contact me personally, and I will be happy to help you plan your trip.
