Disney Parks After The Sun Sets

After spending a long day at the parks of Walt Disney World , do you stick around for the after hour activities?  With lights, sounds and lots of action, the parks come to life when the sun sets.

If you’re at Magic Kingdom,  you can have dessert with your fireworks.  Throughout the year, the Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant  offers the Dessert Fireworks Party.  Prior to the show, you will be served a bountiful of yummy treats and drinks.  When the fireworks begin, you will be ushered to your seats to relax and enjoy and unobstructed view of the fabulous display.

Love Star Wars?  Who doesn’t, right?  You can enjoy the Star Wars Galactic Spectacular at a similar dessert party in Hollywood Studios.  You can nibble on Darth Vadar cupcakes while enjoying a close up view of the “out of this world” night display.  The force is strong with this one!  If you are on a diet (which is a curse word in the Mouse House) you can see the show from anywhere on Hollywood Blvd.

While we’re talking about Hollywood Studios, you won’t want to miss Fantasmic!  This is a magical show featuring Mickey as one of his best characters, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.  Watch as Mickey defeats the villains and wins one for the good guys.  This fabulous laser show can be coupled with a dining package.  You can dine at Hollywood and Vine, Mama Melrose or Hollywood Brown Derby and receive a special seating ticket for the show.  The Fantasmic Dinner Package is available on the dining plan, too.

It sounds like Disney is all about fattening us up during our vacation.  EPCOT offers another great dessert experience.  The EPCOT Illuminations Sparkling Dessert party will let you taste something yummy from different countries.  A few examples are baklava from Morocco, cannoli from Italy, chocolate ganache tarts from France and warm chocolate pudding from the UK.  As you nibble on the delicacies watch as the story of the earth unravels before you in a light, laser and fireworks extravaganza.

One of the newest night time attractions is the Rivers of Light in Animal Kingdom Park.  With a brilliant fusion of water, sound and light, it’s quite unlike anything you’ve experienced before! The Discovery River comes to life with the whispers of the world.  Before your eyes, clusters of lantern light shift and shape into stunning animal spirit forms—the Tiger, Turtle, Elephant and Owl. Spellbound, you’re transported across Asian jungles and tropical oceans to African savannahs and North American mountains.  If you want to snag premium seats, you can opt for the Rivers of Light Dinner Package.  Enjoy a tasty meal at Tusker House or Tiffins and receive a ticket for the best  seats for the show!

If you’re in the mood to dance,  join a cavalcade of dancers, stilt walkers and musicians for a nighttime dance party in the streets of Discovery Island in Animal Kingdom Park! The Viva Gaia Street Band and a spirited group of Islanders welcome you to a gala celebrating the wonder and beauty of nature and who we are together—the “Nature Family.” Bursting with cheerful music and spectacular costumes that take inspiration from the living creatures of the air, land and sea, this seemingly spontaneous, free-spirited jubilee winds its way from one end of Discovery Island to the other, eventually arriving at the Discovery Island stage where the exhilarating festivities get into full swing.

Since you will be hanging around Animal Kingdom a bit longer than normal, don’t miss the awakening of the Tree of Life.  This is a mesmerizing display of lights and wonders that will take your breath away.  Another “must do” is the night time Kilimanjaro Safari.  You will see some of the night predators that are not out during the day hours.

If you are not going to be visiting the parks, there are still plenty of fun activities for after dark.  Check my May blog for some exciting ideas!
