Disneyland is on the verge of completing a five year renovation. Disney is always making things better, but this took better about a hundred steps further. All three Disney hotels, and both California Adventure and Disneyland theme parks have seen improvements. They really went all out, and I think Walt Disney would be pretty pleased. That five year plan comes to a close with the opening of Cars Land and Buena Vista Street in California Adventure this week.
There was a sweet celebration on June 7 when Ghirardelli’s Ice Cream Fountain and Chocolate Shop opened in Downtown Disney in Disneyland. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse were on hand for the fun, along with several Disney friends. If it is anything like the one in Walt Disney World, I am sure I will give it a Triple Yum! I can’t wait to try it!
Carthay Circle Restaurant at California Adventure opens this coming week, and it will officially be the only restaurant in the entire world with 92 Sommeliers. I was impressed with this number, once I looked up the definition of a sommelier; someone who is certified to serve wine, and is an expert on different wines. There are different levels of certification. Having 92 sommeliers really is pretty amazing, You can be assured of getting the right glass of wine with your meal at this restaurant, and at the lounge downstairs.
It might be a little thing but I promise it will be worth checking out. On June 15, 2012, Time Travel Mater premiers at California Adventure, at the Blue Sky Cellar, and on June 16 you can see it on television. It will air during the Cars movie which is on at 8:00 pm/7:00 pm central time. If you are a Cars fan and you want to know the history of Radiator Springs, take a trip through time with Mater and hear the story.
There are lots of fun and exciting things to do in both of the Disneyland Theme parks. Along with the renovations and new attractions come some interesting technology. Disney is trying a system that allows resort guests to purchase admission to both Disneyland theme parks from their smart phones! How cool is that? Only one day and two day tickets are available this way now, but others may be added. This sure will avoid long lines for ticket purchases. Of course, an even better idea is to have your OLP Travel agent process your Disneyland ticket purchases for you before you go.
Disneyland and Walt Disney World joined together recently to honor the Girl Scouts of America and help celebrate their 100th anniversary; quite a milestone. In true Disney style a special ceremony was held to signify the Girl Scouts moving into a new century together. It was called Bridging into the Next Century. There were several activities on both coasts, including recitations of the Girl Scout pledge, crafts exchanges, and displays of important Girl Scouts history and memorabilia. The scouts had the chance to make new friends and meet alumnae from all over the country.
Speaking of Walt Disney World, work is progressing on the new and improved Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom. I love the concept behind the new queue area for Dumbo the Flying Elephant. The line for that attraction can get really long, right? Now you can take your little ones to a play area while waiting. Disney provides you with a beeper, so when it is time, the beeper lights up and you can go ride Dumbo! I wonder how many little ones won’t want to leave the queue area?
That’s it for fun Disney news this week!

I love how Disney is always growing and improving! The idea about the buzzer at Dumbo’s ride. How awesome!
The queue area for Dumbo really will be a fun wait!
