Lesson 1 on Disney vacation family bonding starts with Disneyland and the dream Walt Disney had. He wanted to build a theme park that would cater to families, a place where the illusion of being away from it all existed. “I don’t want the public to see the world they live in while they’re in the Park. I want them to feel they’re in another world.” Every Disney vacation family bonding experience and memory that exists over time all can be traced back to Walt Disney’s first theme park dream; Disneyland.
Let go of your worries and get ready to hug Mickey and Minnie Mouse! Disney vacation destinations provide four important things that are essential for family bonding; traditions, quality time, shared experiences and laughter. Disneyland really answers these essential needs perfectly, providing the ultimate setting, where everything is right there for your family to enjoy. The options will appeal to all different age groups. Disney is the master at providing something for everyone.
The quality time you get when you visit Disneyland is really amazing. There won’t be any time spent on buses getting from one place to another. When you stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel, you are literally staying right in the magic.
It is so intimate there, that the fun starts right when you walk out the door of your Disneyland resort hotel. The best family bonding happens when there is no stress, and not having to worry about how you get from point A to point B makes the stress level pretty low. Traveling with a big group, and not everyone wants to be at the same hotel? No problem when you are in Disneyland, because no matter which of the three you choose, you are very nearby each other.
Walk over to California Adventure and experience something new, like the World of Color Light show; a new tradition that will provide family bonding for years to come. What other vacation destination provides as many traditions as a Disney destination? When you see your little ones light up when they first experience something in Disneyland, a new tradition may be starting. With two amazing theme parks, Disney imagineers have been providing us with family bonding options new and renewed in Disneyland. Disneyland especially has traditions from years back that are still important to families today.
How about sharing an old traditon with your family? The smiles and laughter will abound when you regale your family with your own stories about when you were little and enjoyed an attraction in Disneyland. Take your family for a ride through ‘It’s A Small World’, and laugh with them as they experience a mainstay in Disneyland. Later, as you return to your hotel, perhaps you will all be singing the ‘It’s A Small World’ theme together!
If you are staying in a Disney hotel, you can park your car and spend a lengthy vacation allowing Disney to see to your needs even beyond their theme parks. Visit Southern California in all its glory, with a Disney hotel as your home base. Disney has add ons to their vacation packages, or if you get there and decide you want to visit another Southern California venue, just visit Walt Disney Travel Company in Downtown Disney, and let the Disney folks there help you. What a unique and wonderful option for families who have a wish to see the sites beyond Disneyland. Your family can visit Souther California and experience a family vacation that will leave you with many happy memories; family bonding at its best!
Disneyland has been known forever as “The Happiest Place on Earth!” You will find a smile on your face most of the time, and lots of experiences that will make your family laugh together. Being happy and away from it all is the entire point of Disneyland. Do you think Walt Disney imagined when he opened Disneyland on July 17, 1955, the importance of family bonding in this very busy year of 2012? Did he know his dream would be the foundation of the family bonding experienced at the many Disney destinations today? The visionary speech he made that day in 1955 rings so true today.
“To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”
Join me for my next article where I will write about Walt Disney World in ‘Walt Disney World Makes Magic for Family Bonding’. It was the last theme park that Walt had a hand in the creation of and provides family bonding traditions that have become ageless.

Ahhhh, Disneyland. It was my first Disney experience and it was definitely a bonding one. A year or so later, we went back and stayed at the Disneyland Hotel (yes, that was back in ‘the day’!) and it was amazing. So many fond memories of Disney and they all started with that first trip to Disneyland!

I never had the chance to experience a Disney theme park when I was little. I used to see the Disneyland castle on TV and long to go there. As an adult, when I went, I really felt such a huge excitement! Walt Disney walked there. He really is a hero of mine, and the idea of walking where he walked just made me feel so happy.

I was never there as a kid either Francine. I remember my parent’s went to Disneyland alone when I was about 12 and I thought that was the cruelest thing EVER! LOL
Walt Disney certainly had the formula right for family bonding all those years ago. When you think of all the places created for family fun that have gone by the wayside and how the Walt Disney Resorts are still here! Walt Disney knew how to create the magic and keep it evolving with time!
