Walt Disney World Queueless Waiting Areas for Attractions

December 15th, 2009

Disney is always trying new things. The newest trial is a queueless waiting area for attractions in Walt Disney World. This was used in Fantasyland a week ago, for character meet and greets with Winnie the Pooh and his friends. For this trial Disney had parents wait in line, while the children played in the playground across from the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride. The little ones were kept busy, and when the parents got to a certain point in the line, they would fetch their little prince or princess. It seemed to keep everyone happy.

This week they are trying it out at Rockin Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios. The idea is to have a comfortable stand by area instead of a weaving line. At Rockin Roller Coaster the stand by area has shade. There is a DJ to entertain guests, along with Guitar Hero video games to play, and of course, there is merchandise for sale. Each guest is issued a card with a letter number combination on it. There is a large monitor, and you can watch the monitor for your number to be listed, or listen for it to be called.

It will be interesting to see where Disney takes this new queueless idea. I think it is a great way to break things up a bit, and is another fine example of the Disney Difference.
